Stuff!

Yes, I know it's been awhile. Over a week even. Ok, ok. It's been nine days. (Nine times? Nine times. Nine times?! Niiiine tiiiimes.)

It's been busy. I don't even remember what's happened over the last week.
Ok, that's a total lie. I do remember some stuff. Like the fact that I've got a job now. Last Monday (the 8th, H.B.J.L.) I was offered a different position with current company. It's a six month position, which is a-ok with me. I'll be assisting the conference coordinator mostly, with a bit of database overseeing and training on the side. I'm really excited for a couple of reasons; having a job at all is really pleasing, the fact that I didn't even have to look for one rather rules (or would that be RULEZ?), that I'm staying at the same place with the same people and not having to start anew somewhere else (see aversion to change 2 December) and lastly the fact that now I know that once June rolls around, that'll be it. Possibly, we'll have new funding, but now I at least know ahead of time that come June 1 I'm on my own and I can plan for things now. That's kind of incoherent, but I know what I mean. I only can hope that you do, too.

Tuesday: I accepted said job offer, called Scruffy and flaunted new and extremely official and rather impressive sounding new job title and we laughed and sighed and were happy. Then I finished the rest of the day on a floaty cloud note. I decided to take the Sedgwick bus over to the Knitting Workshop for the Debbie Stoller Stitch' N Bitch booksigning, and discovered that at five o'clock on a week day it is incredibly pointless to attempt to walk east on Madison. 500 or so people are walking west and god forbid you get between them and Union Station. Also it was raining, and of course everyone must use golf umbrellas and they all must have no sense whatsoever of umbrella etiquette so it was bad enough that I had to dodge all the crazy not wanting to miss my train suburbanite zombies, I also had to dodge crazy umbrella wielding not wanting to miss my train suburbanite zombies. And because all of that was such a cakewalk I was wearing stiletto heels. Because I'm smart like that.

So yes, I fell and banged my knee pretty good. Because it was that or not dodge the umbrella that would've taken my right eye out, causing me to catch my heel in a divot in the sidewalk and pitch head first towards the ground. I was amazed though, that someone actually asked if I was ok. Not like last time I fell. (when I was wearing trainers and didn't actually trip or anything and it was sunny and not all that trafficky.)

And then the bus took a half hour to come. Figures. But I got to the Knitting Workshop about on time for the reading and that was cool. Debbie is as awesome as I was hoping she'd be. Then we all went to the coffee shop for Stitch'N Bitch, which was really loud and packed, but a good time.

Wednesday... nothing all that exciting happened. That I can think of. Ditto for Thursday. Also Friday. Oh wait. First thing Monday morning I had registered and paid to go to a networking party on Thursday, figuring that I had no job as of the end of the year, and it would be a smart thing to do. Five minutes after that, I got the job offer. Natch.

So Thursday night came and I went over the the Mart for the party, not so much because I wanted to at that point, but because I'd paid 15 bucks for it, and there was a free drink ticket, and so why not, right? I got there, got my drink, checked out the handful of exhibitors, got a free! ten minute chair massage, waited patiently for the raffle, didn't win anything, then left. Yeah, guys, the thing that they don't tell you about networking is that you have to go up to total strangers and start conversations. So, yeah. That went reeeeeeally well. I made zero contacts. Go team Schecki.

Then Saturday we went to Woodfield mall, which wasn't as zootastic as one would think. The Santa stand was mobbed, but the rest of the mall wasn't all that much more crowded than normal. Scruffy wanted to go to do some Xmas shopping, I wanted to go to get some sparkly sort of dressy top to wear to his office holiday party that night. (Oh, had my office holiday party Thursday. Pretty uneventful with the exception of a certain monkey performing "Santa Baby" on the conference room table. *ahem*) So I found my top (a camisole of sorts, fine black mesh overlay, burgundy underlay, beads, etc..) and some matching jewelry (red chandelier earrings, a 1930s style bracelet and a red stone necklace that I didn't end up wearing, it seemed like overkill with the earrings.) and then we went home and got ready for the party. It went pretty much the same as last year's party, only this time we were at a different restaurant which didn't have crazy russians dancing so hard that the ceiling (we were in a basement room) was trembling and threatening to cave in on us.

Sunday we went with Scruffy's mom, brother and sister-in-law to IKEA and were promptly overwhelmed. It was not at all crowded as far as IKEA goes, but there were still a ton of people. I got a few things, some storage boxes for my stash (not that kind of stash. Yarn stash. Also, while we're talking about yarn, someone, please please pretty *bats eyelashes* please buy me this) some champagne flutes (they were 25 cents a piece!) and some other things, oh! and a really nice weeping fig tree for really cheep! After that, we all went to dinner (with Scruffy's dad as well, who had previously been at a model train show). Then we got home and that brings us to...

Monday, in which we overslept. Got to work at eleven. Oops. Went to Target after work, got some spiffy new shades.

Today has been pretty blah so far. Stitch'n'Bitch tonight, and that's good. Tomorrow should be exciting, going to Chinatown for work. Eee!

See y'all later
